Writing in Public, Too: Month 2, Day 3

Something I thought I probably ought to clear up – technically, I guess this ought to be month four, not month two. I did this before – over a year ago, shortly after Dean Wesley Smith started his “Writing in Public” series. I managed to maintain it for a month, then sort of fell apart shortly into the second month. I’m rather hoping to do better this time! 🙂 So I’m into day three now. Spent some time in the morning managing some edits on an existing work, and then re-read the entire fourth episode of the King of the …

Writing in Public, Too: Month 2, Day 2

Getting a slow start this month. Popped in some Arthurian movies to work my way back into the mood a little bit. I find that watching or reading someone else’s fiction can help me a lot with my own, sometimes.  And to be fair, more than a little procrastination going on, too. Managed to get in 1000 words in the afternoon, then had to take off on errands.   After that, it was dinner, an episode of the movie, and relaxing with a book for a bit before heading to bed. Again, a slow start, but things will pick up …

Writing in Public, Too: Month 2, Day 1

Whew! The month is over. Time to relax, just a little. Today was a day to catch up with the kids some. Started off with a morning of artwork at a nice place downtown where they can paint ceramic and have it fired in a kiln, or do other things like build their own candle. Then on to watch “Penguins of Madagascar”, which was – thank goodness – more funny than the previews made it look. The kids loved it. After that, the rest of the day was spent enjoying the Lego Discovery Center. We left there to head home …

Writing in Public, Too: NaNoWriMo Day 30 – Finished!

Today was the final day of NaNoWriMo. I put in the requisite 2000 words (actually 2300) I still needed to make my goal for the month. I probably could have snuck in a but more, but I had a nice, relaxing day, with several chunks of writing time in, and plenty of time to do other things between them. Then off to work at 2:30 again; by the time I was done with work, it was getting late (out at 11:30pm, home after midnight). But I validated before I left, and was actually at about 51,200 words according to the …

Writing in Public, Too: NaNoWriMo Day 29

What an AWESOME day. I got up on time, grabbed a shower, coffee, and breakfast. I got through my email in about half an hour, and got to work. I took breaks periodically, but the Raven story was blasting along at high speed, and I had about 3000 words done before lunch. I took a long break to make a really nice lunch, and eat away from the keyboard. Then back to it, and managed another 1500 words over the course of the hour or so I had before work.

Writing in Public, Too: NaNoWriMo Day 28

Got up late this morning – overslept, and finally up and moving around 10am. Which is a really late start, for me. By the time I was done answering emails and such, it was almost lunch time. I didn’t get any writing in until after lunch. But a couple of writing sprints gave me 2000 words. Then it was off to work at 2:30 – and no more time to get anything written today. So I’m going into my last two days with 8000 words left to write. Going to be a challenge. 😉   Fiction words for the day: …

Writing in Public, Too: NaNoWriMo Day 27

Happy Thanksgiving, for all you folks in the US! Hope the rest of you are having a grand day, too. Thursday is usually a 16 hour work day for me, but – I got half a day off, for the holiday. I got up at a decent hour and got a thousand words in on the Raven story, which proceeds to go pretty nicely. Smooth sailing on this one so far, and already I am seeing some hints about what I can do in future episodes. Then I decided to check out the coverage of the Macy parade in NYC, …

Writing in Public, Too: NaNoWriMo Day 26

Wow. Big day today. Up at 8am, grabbed breakfast, and then out the door to get a small moving van. Movers arrived at 9:30, and before 11 everything I owned was loaded up. By noon, everything was in the new apartment. Not unpacked, mind you –  but the old place is cleaned, emptied, and I’m installed. Phew. 🙂 The rest of the day was mostly devoted to trying to play catch up on my NaNoWriMo word count. I’ve only got until Sunday night to finish, you see – but I work the 3-11 shift this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! …

Writing in Public, Too: NaNoWriMo Day 25

Crazy busy day today. Still got the writing in! Woke up and got rolling a little later than I would have liked. Woke up, checked email, sort of played on the internet for a little bit. Grabbed some food. And then plowed into my housework. I’m moving to a somewhat smaller apartment, you see. So today was all about downsizing. Got rid of a bunch of stuff. Packed up a lot of the rest. Worked from about 11am until around 4pm, when I suddenly realized I’d skipped lunch, and I was starving. At which point it was time to stop …

Writing in Public, Too: NaNoWriMo Day 23

I only got in another hundred words today on the Arthur story. I hit a snag after that. I’m rather out of outline. Long term, I have some great ideas about where the story is going to go. But I was having a terrible time working out where I wanted it to get in the short term – like this one next episode, and the one after. So I decided to take a couple of days off, and work on something different. I stalked through old projects, and came across one which I liked. It’s about a character named Raven …
